When we first moved in our backyard was completely covered in snow - a lot of snow. Then the snow melted and we finally got to see our yard and this is what we saw...
Pretty huh.
The big dead circle in the grass was where the previous owners had an above ground pool. And of course we couldnt see it until all the snow melted. You know what else we couldnt see until the snow melted - the half finished stair project on the side yard.

But that is a story for another day.
So in order to get the yard whipped back into shape, we started by clearing out all the dead stuff out of the garden area. I am not very familiar with types of plants or how to care for them so I just started chopping down dead stuff with the hope that it wouldn’t kill the plant. And I think I got pretty lucky as this is what we ended up getting a couple weeks later.

We even got adventuresome and planted a basil and mint plant in our garden boxes the seller had left behind.
And a month later we now have this growing in our garden!
Looks much better than this before.
Last week we even went out and brought a couple flowers inside to enjoy in our kitchen.
Then to fix that big dead circle in our back yard, we took a trip to Home Depot and talked to the very helpful people there who sent us home with all the supplies we needed to get the grass going again. We first started by just clearing it all up - you can see my amazing husband, Joe, bagging up all the leaves we had in our yard.
Then we added the grass seed - it was a mix that had the seed and a bunch of nutrients and moisture capturing things (I am sure that is the technical term for them) that were supposed to help it grow.
About a week and a half later, we started to see some grass poking through.
Another week and a half and there was a good amount of grass growing in the circle.
And three weeks later we had a ton of grass! We even got to mow it days after this picture was taken!
So it only took about a month and a half to get the grass to fully grow in which we were really happy about. The only issue is I think we bought a different type of grass seed than the grass in the rest of our lawn....so you can still sort of see where the circle of grass is - oh well.
