I was supposed to work from home yesterday while we had the electrician out to raise our power line mast and make additional fixes (pictures of those to come). It apparently didnt dawn on me that if they remove the power lines from the house I will lose power to the entire house and therefore not be able to charge my computer or have internet access. After a call to my boss and explaining the situation I ended up with the day off and nothing to do as my power was out.
The night before Joe and I had picked up a red metal twin bed from my parents that we wanted to put into the small blue room. The original idea was to put a queen sized bed in that room but after more though we decided that would take up too much space in the little 10x10 room. It was great that the twin bed was free but I didnt like the red color. Joe thought it would look fine and that we could have a red, white, and blue room.....I nicked that idea and told him I had no problem spray painting it white.
Since I had a whole day off work unexpectedly and it was a beautiful day out it seemed like the perfect day to tackle this project.
With the recommendation from my mom (who had spray painted another one of these beds in the past) I bought 2 cans of white spray paint and then used all my strength to carry the pieces of the bed out of the garage, up the side steps (that are not done and def not safe) and out on plastic sheets. The bed ends are not heavy but the base is VERY heavy and awkward. My arms hurt today.
Then it was time to paint!
While spray painting looks easy - it is not. You have to spray evenly and if you spray too much in one area it can bubble up and crack. Here I am about half way through the process.

At this point I ran out of paint. My two cans just didnt cut it. So I drove back out and bought 3 more cans and ended up going through all five. Here I have proof.
I think it was because I was going from a bold red to wanting a stark white, so I needed more paint to do that. I prolly could have even used a couple more cans to cover the base better but spending 5 hours with this project, I decided that since you dont really see the base (as the matrices covers it) that only the side bars really needed paint.
Here is the finished pieces that I left outside for a bit to fully dry.

Even with as long as it took me to paint them, I still finished well before Joe got home so I again had to use all my strength to get them back into the house. This post is making me sound really weak. I swear I am actually pretty strong - in fact I just won an arm wrestling competition a couple weeks ago. Anyway once I got them all inside I really wanted to put it together but decided that I didnt want to scratch it up and that I should wait for Joe. I am not a patient person though. I called Joe twice to see how far out he was.
Once he finally got home we put it together in the blue room and here is what it looked like!

Yeah I know it looks a little odd with the red in there.
How about with a bed and sheets on it!

Or even better, with pillows!
I even got a curtain that I think fits in pretty well.
Now the only thing left is getting a small white nightstand that can go in the corner of the room between the bed and the wall. Joe and I just ordered this one last night and I think it is going to be perfect in the space.
The blue room is on its way!
